How to resolve Channeling

Use fresh coffee beans or ground coffee.It’s suggested to use 16-18g ground coffee powder for a double espresso.Adjust the grinder setting to a finer setting or choose a finer ground coffee, otherwise the pressure is likely to be low.Use the WDT tool to break up clumps in ground coffee, reducing channeling and spurting during extraction.Temp the ground coffee evenly.

Channeling and spurting can be very messy, but these are very very common. This is not a defect of the portafilter itself, but instead, is your coffee telling you that there’s room for improvement in your preparation process (grind size, tamping, distribution, etc)
